West London Strings will round off its 2026 concert season with a free winter performance at St Alban's Church on Sunday 6 December.
The concert, titled "A Scottish Journey", will begin at 4pm and will be directed by Susanna Wilson. Audiences can expect a programme exploring Scotland's musical connections, featuring works by composers including Francesco Barsanti, Felix Mendelssohn and Frédéric Chopin.
The event takes place at St Alban's Church, 2 Margravine Road, W6 8HJ, a Grade II listed Victorian church built between 1894 and 1896. Designed by architects Aston Webb and E. Ingress Bell, the church is noted for its distinctive Perpendicular Gothic-style brick architecture.
Admission is free, continuing the orchestra's long-standing commitment to making live classical music accessible to the local community. A retiring collection will be taken after the performance, with proceeds split equally between Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and West London Strings' own funds.
The concert marks the orchestra's final performance of the year and offers audiences an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of string music with a distinctly Scottish flavour in one of west London's historic church settings.
St Alban's is approximately a 12-minute walk from Barons Court and Hammersmith stations, with bus services available on Fulham Palace Road and Lillie Road. The westbound platform at Barons Court is currently closed. Visitors travelling by car are advised to check current parking restrictions in the borough's Zone H before attending.
Founded to give adult string players a welcoming place to rehearse, learn and perform, West London Strings has grown into one of the area’s most inclusive community orchestras. The group brings together musicians of all ages and backgrounds, from those returning to their instruments after years away to confident players looking for a friendly ensemble.
The orchestra performs three concerts a year, often supporting local charities and community organisations. Its ethos is rooted in accessibility, encouragement and the joy of shared music-making — values that have helped it become a fixture of the West London amateur music scene. New players are always welcome, and the group rehearses weekly in a supportive, sociable environment.
